The next Open Mic: November 11, 2011

The Wellington Square Book Club

The November book club pick is The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise by Julia Stuart.

The Wellington Square Book Club will meet on Wednesday, November 16 at 2:00PM and Thursday, November 17 at 7:00PM to discuss The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise by Julia Stuart, an irreverent look at the lives of a Beefeater, his wife, and their pet tortoise in the Tower of London. Replete with interesting historical facts about the Tower, this bestselling novel focuses on the attempts of the couple to restore their failing marriage after a family tragedy, but the book isn't sad or downbeat. Rather, it's a romp, with appearances by Queen Elizabeth, a menagerie of zoo animals, and a host of zany characters.

If you're already part of a book club, hold your meeting in the store - we'll give you 20% off books you buy through the shop and free coffee and pastries from our delicious cafe. (We'll also provide wine glasses, if you're inclined) Send us an e-mail with the number of people attending and the date and time you're thinking of coming in or give the store a call. We're always available for you!

In December, we'll be reading and discussing The Best American Short Stories edited by Geraldine Brooks, an anthology containing fiction originally published in 2010 and written by Joyce Carol Oates, Jennifer Egan, Caitlin Horrocks, and other notable American authors. Join us December 14 at 2:00PM or December 15 at 7:00PM. Discussion of the stories in this book will be continued at the January meeting of The Wellington Square Book Club.
